Microsoft Office is a bundle of Microsoft's productivity application. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and later Mail, Office Manager, and Outlook. The '1.x' versions of Microsoft Office were simply a marketing bundle of the standalone products sold together with no other packaging changes. Even though these were distinct applications, rather than one single monolithic program, they shared a similar user interface, integrated well together and shared the ability to embed documents from one application in the documents of another.
Features not yet available in the new Outlook for Mac. There are several features that are available in the current version of Outlook for Mac for Office 365 that aren't yet available in the new Outlook experience. S/MIME - Now available in Insider Fast version 16.43. Microsoft Office 3.0 for Mac was released in 1992 and included Word 5.0, Excel 4.0, PowerPoint 3.0 and Mail Client. Excel 4.0 was the first application to support new AppleScript. Microsoft Office 4.2 for Mac was released in 1994.
MS Office started out on the Macintosh, but quickly became the de-facto office suite for Windows 3.x.

Microsoft Office 4.2 completes the transition started with Office 4.0 (they skipped 4.1). All of the Office components now support OLE2 and have consistent user interfaces between platforms and applications.
Office 4.2 includes Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, and PowerPoint 4.0. It does NOT include Microsoft Access.
Office 4.2 was released for Windows 3.1, the Apple Macintosh, and i386/Alpha Windows NT. (In the NT package, PowerPoint is still 16-bit)
Later 4.2 releases were rebadged as 'Microsoft Office 4.2 Standard' and sold along side 'Microsoft Office 4.3 Professional'. The main difference was the addition of Microsoft Access. There was never a 'Professional' Office 4.2. Likely the reason for this was it let them keep the Macintosh version the same, as Microsoft Access was never ported to the Mac.
Installation instructions
To perform a non-floppy install using floppy disk images, extract the content of each disk in to folders named Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, etc. Then run setup.
The Macintosh version supports both 68K and Power PC Macs.
